Grand Prix Glamour at the Marina

A huge congratulations to  Max Verstappen and Red Bull for winning the Miami Grand Prix, the fifth round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship, at the Miami International Autodrome, and a huge thank you to our guests and sponsors for an unforgettable Grand Prix 2023 weekend from Pier Sixty-Six.

“What an incredible celebration,” says Megan Lagasse, Marine Director at Pier Sixty-Six. “Amazing races and experiences for our guests, from police escorts to the racetrack to delicious fun here at the docks.  A big thank you to our wonderful sponsors and our team here at the marina.”

Their hard work paid off, with delightful surprises at every turn.

Pier 66 Residences hosted the kick-off celebrations on Friday night at the Superyacht Pavilion. VIP guests were treated to an amazing atmosphere beside the marina, with sparkling cocktails, handcrafted sushi, and big-screen highlights from the track. The sunset was on point.

“This is the glamorous waterfront lifestyle that Pier Sixty-Six residents will experience all year,” says Amy Ballon, Director of Sales. “It was a wonderful showcase of the exceptional residences and exclusive social events to come.”

Closer to the Action

As the closest superyacht marina to the track, Pier Sixty-Six was proud to be the harbor of choice for so many race fans for the second year in a row. Guests with F1 tickets had high-speed escorts to the track, while others watched the action on big screens in the Superyacht Pavilion, from the warm-up practices and thrilling qualifying race to the big day itself. Qualifying was especially tense – gasps rippled through the crowd when Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed out on turns six to seven and smashed into the barriers. Luckily, he was unhurt, but it did affect Verstappen’s run, and he only managed ninth, with Sergio Pérez taking pole position. On the big day, Verstappen started on hard tires and worked his way through the field, leading the middle stages after Perez pitted. After a 3.1-second pit stop, Verstappen rejoined the race just behind Perez, whose hard tires had 25 laps on them. Perez tried valiantly to defend, but Verstappen passed him at Turn 1 with 10 laps to go, and pulled away to win by over 5 seconds.

A huge thank you to the esteemed sponsors who helped make the weekend a thrilling success.

Penfolds was on hand with glamorous fine wines and their distinctive Thiénot X Penfolds Grand Cru Champagne. This limited-release Champagne is made from the spectacular 2012 vintage. Many guests also enjoyed the bright orange ‘Broken Negroni’, the official drink of F1, featuring sparkling wine instead of gin. (It’s also much easier to say than ‘Negroni Sbagliato’.)

Voltari brought thrilling electric performance boating – with demo rides for boat owners in the Intracoastal and into the Atlantic. The fully electric Voltari 260 can reach speeds of 60MPH, with 740 horsepower – and zero emissions.
